Brittny Johnson Petaluma Doula

The Butter Birth Lady

Let’s make birth a little more like butter!

Body Balancing for late pregnancy to support comfort, optimal positioning, and a smoother birth experience.

Meet the Butter Birth Lady

Hi I’m Bee! I’m an experienced doula, a Spinning Babies Aware Practitioner, and a Dynamic Body Balancing Facilitator with hundreds of hours of training and experience in pregnancy focused bodywork. I support pregnant people in creating the kind of birth experience that feels more like flow than force… more like softening than bracing… more like butter than struggle.

A Butter Birth is an industry term doulas and midwives use to describe the smoothest labors; swift, sweet and uncomplicated. They’re like doula dessert! A Butter Birth isn’t about perfection or having a pain-free experience. Birth is powerful, intense, and deeply transformative.

A Butter Birth is about softness, flow, and working with your body instead of against it.

It’s what can happen when:

  • Your body has space to open
  • Your baby has room to find their best position
  • Tension and resistance are gently reduced
  • You feel supported, safe, and connected

No one can promise a specific kind of birth—but we can support the conditions that help birth unfold more smoothly and efficiently.

How Body Balancing Supports a Butter Birth

When the body is more balanced, labor often has an easier time doing what it’s designed to do.

By gently releasing tension and creating more symmetry in the pelvis and surrounding muscles, body balancing can:

  • Help your baby settle into a more optimal position
  • Reduce physical resistance during labor
  • Support more efficient, coordinated contractions
  • Create a greater sense of ease and flow in your body

It’s a simple, powerful way to support the kind of birth experience I call a Butter Birth.

This offering is especially helpful if you’re:

  • Feeling hip, back, or pelvic discomfort
  • Noticing tension or tightness in your body
  • Wanting to encourage optimal baby positioning
  • Looking for a calm, supportive way to prepare for labor

Many clients leave sessions feeling more comfortable, deeply relaxed, and more connected to their bodies.

What a Session Feels Like

Sessions are slow, gentle, and completely tailored to you. We’ll use a combination of:

  • Light touch and subtle bodywork, including craniosacral work and myofascial release
  • Guided positions and gentle movement
  • Simple techniques you can continue at home
  • A comfortable, paced experience where you are heard, never hurried

There’s nothing you need to “do”—this is a space to rest, receive, and let your body soften.

Body balancing is especially supportive in the last weeks of pregnancy, but you’re welcome anytime you’re feeling discomfort or simply want extra support as you prepare for birth. I often work with folks past their due dates, to ensure the baby’s position isn’t what is impeding the start of labor, or after they hear from their provider that their baby is in a less optimal position. Body balancing is a key piece of preparation for an ECV (external cephalic version) if your baby is breech!

“Bee has such a gift for intuitive bodywork. Her sessions with my clients are some of their favorite prenatal prep because they feel so nurturing and personalized. She has worked with several of my doula clients who were very post-dates to relieve some physical tension, allowing labor to start, often by the next day! Bee brings such a keen eye and open heart to these sessions, leaving folks feeling empowered and grounded in their bodies. I highly recommend working with her!” Sarah H, doula
